Please remember that the motorway hard shoulder is only for use in a emergency!
In case of a emergency situation where you cannot continue to the next motorway exit you should pull on to the hard shoulder as far away from the traffic lane as possible and turn your steering so the wheels are turned to the left.
Switch on your hazard warning lights and if it’s dark or foggy then switch on the sidelights too.
All occupants of the vehicle should come out of the car from the passenger side doors away from the traffic lane and wait behind the barrier. Leave pets and animals in the vehicle.
If you have a high visibility or reflective garment then please do wear it.
Due to the huge risks involved we recommend you don’t attempt any repairs yourself.
Please be vigilant and keep yourself and others safe at all times.
If your vehicle breaks down in a live traffic lane and you cannot get it to the hard shoulder safely then please call the POLICE emergency number immediately.
